Van Gogh, Green Wheat Fields With Cypress
Van Gogh, Green Wheat Fields With Cypress

I Went Outside at Evening

I went outside at evening
There the purple lines of cloud
And two birds speeding
On the valley air
Pine silhouettes on the mountain
The great fire just gone
Far off dogs bark for food
And beside me this cat
I fed as a stray
Gone wild returning to have me scratch
Her thick shedding fur
She bites from pleasure
Diving her skull against my nails
Wishing never to stop
Nor do I
Above our heads the mild rattle of rain
On the corrugated tin
No wind
Two vagabonds
In the falling dark
