In my company Ryokan
Familiar voices
Family amusements
They've never known me
It doesn't matter
There's nothing to know
The pages turn the sorrow fades
I join his world
Of budding cherry trees
Children running
The icy streams flying downhill
Petals wind-carried to earth
The monk and the children play
Near my head muffled rain and outside
Pure drops pitch down the pines
The mendicant gives everything
He cannot ever cease
Hours pass
Still the rain
Late winter
