Elegy
for Mike Word
Grey-eyed bird fly for me
Fly far and high
Above wind's flowing shoulder
Where the air and sunlight are brothers
This is the message to take there
My life and what it meant
Take them in your wingbeat
Through the many distances
That will disappear all at once
Into your accepting eyes
If anyone below asks of me
Say the earth was crusted then
That my blood drained and my skin greyed
But when my dear ones rise
On the fiery clouds of the heart
I'll heal that day
Grey-eyed bird fly for me
Fly far and high
If anyone below asks of me
Say the earth was crusted then
My blood drained my skin greyed
Grey-eyed bird fly for me
Fly far and high
Above wind's flowing shoulder
Where the air and sunlight are brothers
This is the message to take there
My life and what it meant
Take them in your wingbeat
Through the many distances
That will disappear all at once
Into your accepting eyes
